Mohammed Kudus has opened up about his time at West Ham United, offering a revealing insight into his two-year spell in east London and the difficult decision that eventually led to his departure.

The Ghana international arrived at West Ham from Ajax in 2023 and quickly established himself as one of the club’s most exciting attacking players. His first campaign was particularly impressive, with Kudus producing a series of eye-catching performances and memorable goals.

His decision to leave the London Stadium in 2025 eventually brought his West Ham chapter to an end, with Tottenham completing a £55 million deal for the forward. Kudus signed a six-year contract with Spurs after making 65 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, scoring 13 goals and registering nine assists.

However, the circumstances surrounding his departure have continued to generate interest among supporters.

Kudus has previously made it clear that he is a player who does not like remaining in his comfort zone. During his time at Ajax, he explained that he could have stayed in the Netherlands but wanted to challenge himself by taking the next step in his career.

That mentality was also evident when he eventually moved on from West Ham.

“I’m a player who doesn’t want to be in my comfort zone,” Kudus said during his West Ham spell. “I always want to challenge myself.”

His two seasons with the Hammers therefore represented an important stage in his development. He adapted to English football, established himself as a regular attacking threat and became one of the players capable of producing moments of individual brilliance.

Yet his second season was more difficult, with his form attracting scrutiny before speculation over his future intensified. Reports eventually suggested that West Ham were prepared to consider selling him, while Tottenham emerged as a serious destination.

Kudus ultimately chose Spurs and made his feelings about the move clear immediately after the transfer.

“I only wanted Spurs,” he said in Tottenham’s announcement material.

That statement provided a significant clue about his mindset at the time, although it does not erase the contribution he made during his West Ham career.

There was also considerable affection for Kudus among those connected with West Ham, with supporters having seen first-hand the extraordinary ability he possessed. His performances included spectacular goals and powerful individual displays that made him one of the most entertaining players at the club.

The Ghanaian has now moved on, but his comments about refusing to become comfortable help explain why his career has repeatedly involved major changes.

From Nima to Denmark, then Ajax, West Ham and Tottenham, Kudus has consistently pursued the next challenge rather than simply remaining where he is familiar.

His West Ham chapter may therefore have ended with mixed emotions, but the message from Kudus appears straightforward: he valued the experience, developed significantly in London, and ultimately believed another challenge was necessary for the next stage of his career.
