The latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings have been released, with Spain continuing to occupy the top position following an impressive run of results since winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to the latest rankings published by FIFA on Wednesday, October 7, Spain have strengthened their position at the summit after recording a perfect start to their UEFA Nations League campaign. The world champions remain ahead of Argentina, while France continue to occupy third place.
Argentina remain second despite losing the World Cup final to Spain, but they are now almost 40 points behind the reigning world champions. France complete the top three.
The biggest change inside the top 10 comes from Portugal. Roberto Martínez’s side have climbed two places to fifth after their strong performances in the Nations League. Portugal have moved above both Brazil and Morocco, who have dropped to sixth and seventh respectively.
England remain among the leading nations in the world, while the remainder of the top 10 remains unchanged. FIFA confirmed that there were no teams entering or leaving the top 10 in this latest update.

The latest update also brings significant movement further down the rankings.
Switzerland have climbed two places to 12th, overtaking Germany and Croatia. Germany have fallen to 13th, while Croatia are now 14th. Greece have also enjoyed a notable rise, moving five places to 41st after going four matches unbeaten.
African football has also made considerable progress. Mali and South Africa have both climbed six places, moving into 47th and 48th respectively. Their rises mean that Africa now has 10 teams inside FIFA’s top 50.
Nigeria remain one of Africa’s highest-ranked nations, with the Super Eagles sitting in 26th position in the FIFA rankings.
Further down the table, several African nations recorded impressive movements following their recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches. Rwanda climbed nine places to 119th, Guinea-Bissau moved up eight places to 124th, while The Gambia rose seven places to 109th. Botswana climbed six places to 141st, with Mozambique moving five places to 98th.
The Dominican Republic and Rwanda recorded the biggest rises in terms of ranking positions, with both nations moving up nine places. Guinea-Bissau registered the biggest points gain, adding 35.65 points to their total.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone suffered the biggest ranking fall, dropping eight places, while Cabo Verde recorded the largest points decrease.
FIFA said a total of 338 men’s international matches have been played since the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup on July 19, with UEFA Nations League matches and Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures contributing significantly to the latest changes.
The next official FIFA Men’s World Ranking is scheduled to be released on November 18, 2026.
