England Star Returns to Club Training After Leaving International Squad Ahead of Croatia Clash

England’s preparations for their upcoming UEFA Nations League clash with Croatia have suffered another setback after Manchester City defender Nico O’Reilly returned to his club following an injury setback.

O’Reilly was part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad during the current international window and featured for the Three Lions in their 3–2 defeat against Spain at Wembley. However, the young defender subsequently missed England’s 2–0 victory over Czechia after suffering an injury during training.

The Football Association later confirmed that O’Reilly had left the England camp and returned to Manchester City for further assessment. He will therefore play no part in England’s remaining Nations League fixtures during the international window.

The development comes shortly before England travel to face Croatia, adding to the defensive concerns facing Tuchel. The England manager had previously indicated that O’Reilly and Ezri Konsa were dealing with minor injury issues during preparations for the Czechia match.

O’Reilly’s departure also means Tuchel will have to work with fewer defensive options as England prepare for another demanding international fixture.

The Manchester City youngster had endured a difficult evening against Spain, completing the match but being involved in a key moment surrounding Spain’s second goal. He was subsequently unable to feature against Czechia, and further assessment was deemed necessary before England’s next fixtures.

England have already experienced several withdrawals during this international period, with a number of established players unavailable because of injury-related issues. O’Reilly’s absence adds another name to that list.

Despite the growing injury concerns, the England camp will now turn its attention towards Croatia. The Three Lions enter the fixture after responding to their defeat against Spain with a 2–0 victory over Czechia, while Croatia have also been involved in the early stages of the Nations League campaign.

Tuchel will now have to decide how best to reorganise his defensive options for the trip to Croatia, with O’Reilly unavailable.

For Manchester City, meanwhile, O’Reilly’s return provides the club with an opportunity to monitor his condition directly and determine when he can safely return to full competitive action.

The situation will be closely watched by both England and City supporters, particularly with important domestic fixtures approaching after the international break.

For now, the confirmed position is that O’Reilly has withdrawn from England duty because of injury and has returned to Manchester City for further assessment. There has been no official confirmation from the Football Association or Manchester City that his departure was connected to a disagreement with Tuchel.
