BAD NEWS: Rangers star set for shock transfer to Champions League club after season of misery at Ibrox

Villarreal are reportedly eyeing a move for Max Aarons next season, after the full-back’s difficult loan spell at Rangers came to an end.

The Spanish side’s interest could give the defender an unexpected opportunity to revive his career in La Liga—and potentially feature in the Champions League, a competition where he endured a nightmare moment with Rangers after being sent off in the play-off tie against Club Brugge.

Aarons returned to Bournemouth following a disappointing season at Ibrox, where Rangers finished without a trophy.

Although he made 35 appearances across the campaign, only eight of those came as starts in the Scottish Premiership. His season ended with a first-half substitute appearance in Danny Röhl’s final league match of the season against Falkirk.

The 26-year-old appears to have no future at Bournemouth, despite having three years left on his contract.

Villarreal, who are currently battling Atlético Madrid for third place and have secured Champions League football for next season, are said to prefer a loan deal for Aarons rather than a permanent transfer.

Aarons does have prior experience in Spain, having spent time on loan at Valencia last season, where he made five La Liga appearances.
