adminAston Villa are reportedly on the lookout for a new midfielder this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall said to be one of the names on their radar.
The 20-year-old Swedish youngster has also been linked with Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Bayern Munich, as speculation over his future continues to build.
Bergvall is believed to be keen on leaving Spurs in search of regular first-team football, though recent reports indicate that Tottenham have made it clear he is not for sale.
Following Sweden’s 3-0 World Cup round-of-32 defeat to France earlier this week—a game Bergvall started—he was asked about his club situation. Speaking to Swedish outlet Aftonbladet (via FootballLondon), he said: “I want consistent minutes in my position. That’s the only goal. We’ll see what happens in the future. Up until now, I’ve only been focused on the World Cup.”
Throughout the tournament, Bergvall has been guarded when asked whether he intends to remain in England. “As I said, my focus was on the World Cup. We’ll deal with whatever comes next. I don’t know—we’ll see,” he added.
His prospects of earning a regular role at Spurs appear to be fading, especially after the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali have strengthened Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield, pushing Bergvall further down the pecking order.
Since De Zerbi took over in March, Bergvall has made only one start and featured for just 112 minutes in total. His current contract runs until 2031.
