‘Out of Tottenham’s hands’ – De Zerbi may be left heartbroken by Joao Palhinha’s plans
Even before the summer transfer window officially opens, Tottenham and Roberto De Zerbi could face a major setback regarding João Palhinha’s future, according to the latest reports.
Tottenham have the option to sign Palhinha permanently for £22 million once his loan spell ends this summer. The midfielder has proven his value in recent weeks, playing a key role in Spurs’ fight for survival.
As many Tottenham fans know, De Zerbi has made it clear that he wants Palhinha at the club next season. However, reports from Portugal suggest that Sporting Lisbon are preparing to challenge Spurs for the midfielder’s signature, with the club plotting a move to re-sign their former player.
Palhinha’s future may no longer be in Tottenham’s control
A few days ago, A Bola and Correio da Manhã reported that Palhinha could be tempted to return to Sporting due to personal reasons. That claim has since been backed up by Football Insider, which states that the midfielder may prefer to move back to his home country this summer for personal considerations.
According to the report, the 30-year-old could turn down the chance to join Tottenham on a permanent basis and instead push for a return to his boyhood club.
