Brentford Loanee Departs Rangers After Emotional Farewell

Jayden Meghoma, the teenage defender on loan from Brentford, has returned to West London after his season-long spell at Rangers came to an end. The 19-year-old left-back took to social media to share an emotional goodbye to the club.

Meghoma made 44 appearances for Rangers this season, stepping up as the team’s only recognized senior left-back for the first half of the campaign. Signed by former manager Russell Martin in August, the youngster scored one goal and provided six assists. He now heads back to the Brentford Community Stadium, where he still has one year left on his contract.

It was a year of highs and lows for the young full-back, who was heavily relied upon before January. That’s when current Rangers boss Danny Rohl brought in Tuur Rommens from Westerlo to add competition on the left side of defense. Despite losing his starting spot, the loan move served its purpose—Brentford had sent him out to gain regular playing time, and he certainly did.

“It’s been a privilege to wear the badge”

In a heartfelt post on X, Meghoma thanked everyone at Rangers for giving him his first full season of consistent first-team football. “It’s been a privilege to wear this badge,” he wrote. “Thank you to my teammates, staff, and especially the fans for the support this season. Rangers FC is a special club and one I’ll always be thankful to have represented. All the best for what’s ahead.”

While his defensive positioning eventually saw him fall behind Rommens in the pecking order, Meghoma showed real promise going forward. His powerful strike in December’s 2-2 draw away to Dundee United was one of Rangers’ best goals of the season. The Englishman was also a threat from set pieces.

Rangers say goodbye to several loanees

Meghoma is one of several loan players leaving Ibrox, joining Andreas Skov Olsen, Derek Cornelius, Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga, and Mikey Moore—the latter of whom Rohl has said he will “try everything” to sign permanently from Tottenham after an impressive campaign.

Homegrown talents Leon King and Kieran Wright have also departed after 17 years of service each. Chairman Andrew Cavenagh echoed Rohl’s comments that a summer rebuild is necessary at Ibrox ahead of the transfer window.
