Tottenham Hotspur are facing a potential new injury setback ahead of their crucial Premier League meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, as Destiny Udogie has reportedly emerged as a doubt for the match.
Heading to Molineux, Spurs are still chasing their first Premier League victory of 2026, having failed to win any of their opening 15 league games this calendar year—a disastrous run that has dropped them to 18th in the table. They currently sit two points behind West Ham United, who kick off at the same time against Everton on Saturday afternoon.
For Roberto De Zerbi’s side to climb out of the relegation zone, they need to beat Wolves and hope West Ham don’t win, thanks to their superior goal difference.
However, the Italian manager is already without several key players: Guglielmo Vicario, Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski, Cristian Romero, Mohammed Kudus, and Ben Davies. According to The Sun, Udogie may now join that list.
Udogie’s injury woes continue
The exact nature of the left-back’s problem remains unclear, but the report suggests he is doubtful for gameweek 34 as his frustrating run of fitness issues persists.
This season, Udogie has managed just 24 appearances across all competitions due to two separate knee injuries and two hamstring problems, sidelining him for a total of 21 games. He only returned from his most recent issue in mid-March.
Udogie played the full 90 minutes in De Zerbi’s managerial debut—a 1-0 loss to Sunderland—and then featured for 76 minutes in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, where his substitution initially looked tactical.
But the 23-year-old may have picked up a fresh problem during that stalemate, which marked only his 10th Premier League start of the 2025–26 campaign.
Since joining Spurs, Udogie has missed 46 matches for club and country through injury, though when fully fit he has recorded two goals and five assists in 90 appearances.
Potential replacements for Udogie against Wolves
Tottenham are accustomed to coping without Udogie, but that doesn’t lessen the blow for De Zerbi, who also cannot call on the experienced Ben Davies during the relegation run-in. Still, the Spurs boss has three possible replacements, with Djed Spence the most likely option for the weekend.
Spence has regularly filled in at left-back during Udogie’s absences, though he faces competition from January signing Souza.
The 19-year-old, however, hasn’t featured in either of Tottenham’s last two matchday squads. Alternatively, De Zerbi could deploy Micky van de Ven’s pace at left-back and pair Kevin Danso with Radu Dragusin in central defence.
But if Udogie misses out, shifting Spence to left-back appears the most straightforward solution.
