Tottenham are bracing for a major squad overhaul at the end of the season, with the goalkeeping department expected to see significant changes.

Inter Milan have been plotting a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur’s No.1, Guglielmo Vicario, for months. Talk of a potential exit is now gaining momentum, with reports that Inter have already reached an agreement on personal terms with the Italian international.

From Vicario’s standpoint, a return to his homeland holds clear appeal. Inter Milan can offer Champions League football year after year, and they are genuine Serie A title contenders for much of the season.

Furthermore, his chances of representing Italy would likely improve if the 29-year-old becomes a regular starter for one of Italy’s top clubs.

Vicario is currently sidelined after undergoing hernia surgery during the March international break, causing him to miss Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland on Sunday.

Antonín Kinský deputised for the Italian, and despite Spurs leaving Wearside with a loss, the young goalkeeper impressed.

Antonín Kinský urged to leave Spurs at the end of the season

Kinský endured a nightmare Champions League debut last month—earning a horror 1/10 rating—when he was substituted in the 17th minute after two high-profile errors against Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the last-16 tie. Then-interim boss Igor Tudor made the decision to bring him off and introduce Vicario.

Sunday therefore offered a shot at redemption for the 23-year-old, and he performed well between the sticks against Sunderland. The Czech shot-stopper made several crucial saves across both halves, though he still ended up on the losing side.

Amid talk of a new No.1 arriving—with Manchester City’s James Trafford heavily linked to N17—John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, has urged Kinský to leave the club on a permanent basis this summer.

“I could see both going permanently. I haven’t seen enough, really. When he has played, he’s underperformed, and he had that huge, shocking moment against Atlético Madrid,” Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.

“I think it’s probably better for him if he just goes and restarts his career somewhere else. Next season we’re going to have no Europe either, so there’ll be even fewer games and less opportunities for him to play.

I think Tottenham would be wise to move both of them on and bring in an established number one. If that’s James Trafford, and you have to pay £40 million, so be it.

“I know Man City paid £28 million for him in the summer, so they’ll be looking for a little bit on top, but that’s your number one keeper, ideally for the next 10 years—he’s only 23. So you go out, get him done, and then maybe an older English keeper as backup as well.”

Kinský must leave Spurs

Kinský is a talented young goalkeeper with a bright future ahead of him. He was signed in January 2025 when Vicario was sidelined with a fractured ankle, and the deal was considered a bargain at the time.

However, things have not gone smoothly for the Czech Republic shot-stopper, who has underperformed when given opportunities this season—his outing against Sunderland aside.

With Tottenham planning to sign a new No.1 this summer, potentially as a replacement for Vicario, there is little point in Kinský staying at the club to play backup. For the sake of his career, he must leave.
