Sheffield Wednesday’s final seven games of the Championship campaign may carry little significance in terms of their fate, but they still offer a chance to rebuild confidence at Hillsborough if results improve.

The Owls’ season has largely been overshadowed by off-field turmoil. The club remains in administration as of early April, a situation triggered by former chairman Dejphon Chansiri back in October. On the pitch, matters have been just as bleak. Wednesday are set to finish with the lowest points total in Championship history, with a maximum possible tally of 15—well short of Rotherham United’s previous low of 23.
Manager Henrik Pedersen has had to cope with a severely depleted squad due to transfer and registration sanctions imposed by the English Football League during Chansiri’s controversial tenure.

Their recent 3–1 defeat to Hull City extended a miserable winless run to 33 matches across all competitions—an English football record.
Relegation to League One had long seemed inevitable, particularly after an 18-point deduction. Still, Pedersen has faced criticism from some fans over his in-game decisions. However, with David Storch now named preferred bidder, attention has shifted toward the club’s future.

Pedersen has confirmed he recently met with Storch, who is working to complete a takeover through Arise Capital Partners. While uncertainty remains over potential restrictions next season, especially with ongoing talks involving the EFL, Pedersen is expected to stay on and play a role in the early stages of the rebuild.

The 48-year-old, who has two years left on his contract, has expressed a strong desire to remain at the club. He emphasized ongoing preparations for League One, including pre-season planning, scouting profiles, and identifying potential free transfers.

Despite the challenges, Pedersen remains optimistic, highlighting the collective effort behind the scenes and the club’s determination to move forward.

There are also signs of stability within the squad. Jamal Lowe is set to stay following a contract extension triggered by appearances, while the club plans to offer new terms to Liam Cooper. Encouraging injury updates have also emerged for players like Liam Palmer, Di’Shon Bernard, and Svante Ingelsson, all of whom could play key roles next season.

Although uncertainty still surrounds Sheffield Wednesday, the early signs of planning and the progress of Storch’s proposed takeover provide a sense of cautious optimism—something that was lacking during the earlier bidding process involving James Bord.
