“A big threat”- Oliver Glasner singles out West Ham star despite dismal display vs Crystal Palace
Following Monday night’s goalless draw, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner singled out West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen for praise in his post-match press conference—despite the winger having a quiet game.
Bowen struggled to make an impact at Selhurst Park, rarely threatening to score or create a goal. His subdued performance reflected West Ham’s overall lack of attacking sharpness, as they missed a chance to move further clear of Tottenham.
Still, Glasner remained upbeat when discussing Bowen’s threat, particularly from dead-ball situations. Neither side deserved to win, with both appearing content to settle for a hard-fought point. West Ham generated a few promising moments but will feel they should have tested Palace’s defense more.
While forwards Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe also toiled, Bowen’s display was arguably the most disappointing.
The Hammers captain is usually reliable in the final third, but he was fortunate not to be substituted by manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
Nevertheless, Glasner viewed Bowen as West Ham’s most likely match-winner, highlighting his delivery from set pieces in an interview with Sky Sports. “West Ham defended the box very well. We matched their motivation today,” Glasner said.
“The biggest threat came from set-plays. We gave them too many, especially in the first half. They have a lot of tall players, and Bowen delivers the ball well.”
While Glasner’s assessment of Bowen’s crossing is fair, West Ham fans will expect far more from their captain in the final five matches. If the Hammers are to secure enough points to avoid relegation, Bowen will need to produce a much stronger showing than he did against Palace.
