UEFA Issues Update on Croatia vs England as Fixture Schedule Becomes Subject of Fresh Uncertainty

UEFA has provided clarification on the procedures surrounding changes to UEFA Nations League fixtures as fresh reports about the scheduled Croatia versus England clash continue to attract attention.

The highly anticipated League A Group A3 meeting is officially listed for Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Stadion HNK Rijeka. UEFA’s published schedule currently shows Croatia hosting England at 18:00 CET, while England Football lists the fixture for 5pm BST.

Reports circulating around the fixture have suggested that the match could be postponed and rearranged, prompting questions among supporters about whether the original schedule will remain in place.

However, UEFA’s current official competition information continues to list Croatia versus England as an October 3 fixture.

UEFA Rules Allow Fixtures to Be Rearranged

UEFA’s Nations League regulations contain specific provisions for situations in which a match cannot begin or cannot be completed as originally scheduled.

Under Article 24 of the 2026/27 Nations League regulations, if a match cannot be played as planned, UEFA can determine a new date and kick-off time. The regulations also state that the UEFA administration must approve the stadium and establish the revised kick-off time where a rescheduling becomes necessary.

This means that any genuine postponement would require an official decision and revised arrangements from UEFA.

Croatia vs England Already Had Special Restrictions

The fixture was already expected to be unusual because Croatia is subject to a UEFA spectator sanction.

The match is scheduled to take place behind closed doors, following disciplinary action connected to previous incidents involving Croatian supporters. Despite the stadium restriction, a limited number of England supporters were expected to be permitted to attend.

England Football previously confirmed that only 100 complimentary tickets would be made available to eligible members of the England Supporters Travel Club, despite receiving 1,543 registrations for those places.

That unusual arrangement had already made the Rijeka meeting a major talking point among England supporters.

England Enter the Fixture After Victory in Prague

Thomas Tuchel’s England side entered the October international fixtures following a 3-2 defeat to Spain at Wembley before responding with a 2-0 victory away against Czechia.

The Czechia victory gave England three points from their opening two Group A3 matches, while Croatia also entered the October fixture schedule with three points after beating Czechia before suffering a heavy defeat against Spain. UEFA’s fixture list continues to show Croatia versus England as the next meeting between the two sides.

The match therefore carries importance for both teams as they attempt to strengthen their positions in a group that also contains Spain and Czechia.

Supporters Await Clarity

Any confirmed change to the fixture would have consequences for players, coaching staff and supporters.

A postponement could affect travel arrangements, accommodation, training schedules, player recovery and the remaining Nations League calendar. Both national teams would also have to adapt their preparations if UEFA formally moved the contest to another date.

For now, however, the official UEFA and England Football schedules continue to list the fixture for October 3.

Attention will therefore remain on UEFA for any further official announcement regarding the match.

If a postponement is formally confirmed, UEFA’s regulations provide for a new date and kick-off time to be established while taking the needs of both teams and the wider international calendar into consideration.

For the moment, England and Croatia remain scheduled to meet in Rijeka, with the latest official fixture information still pointing to Saturday’s encounter.
