adminJamie O’Hara’s frustration with Tottenham Hotspur reached another level after the former Spurs midfielder claimed the club should have been relegated from the Premier League last season.
O’Hara endured another difficult night on talkSPORT following Tottenham’s disappointing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Liverpool on Tuesday.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool at a rain-soaked Anfield, bringing their hopes of lifting the competition to an early end.
Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai all found the net for Liverpool, while Conor Gallagher scored a late consolation for Tottenham.
Gallagher’s close-range effort was particularly significant because it represented Tottenham’s first goal of the season. Spurs had failed to score in their opening four Premier League matches before finally finding the net at Anfield.
With Tottenham’s start to the campaign beginning to resemble the struggles of the previous two seasons, O’Hara appeared to have reached breaking point.
O’Hara vents his frustration
“Seriously, what is going on?” O’Hara asked as he opened Tuesday night’s show.
“I feel like every day I wake up and it’s the same thing.
“Every single time Spurs play, I look at the fixtures and think, ‘Spurs are playing tonight, alright, here we go, get beat.’
“I don’t know what to say. It’s groundhog day.”
His misery was only amplified by his talkSPORT co-host Jason Cundy, who appeared to thoroughly enjoy watching O’Hara suffer.
“This is the perfect night again for Cundy. When is my night?” O’Hara continued.
“I’ve been here for five years and I’ve had one good night. One. The Europa League final, that was it.
“It’s absolute guff, it really is, and I’m sick and tired of it. I know everyone enjoys it, but this is actually getting ridiculous.
“Where do Spurs go from here? We’ve got a disease. We don’t know how to win.
“Even when we score, we get beat. Every single game, no matter what, Spurs get beat.
“Spend £400million – get beat.
“Score – get beat.
“New manager – get beat.
“We’ve got a disease.”
Cundy then jokingly suggested that Tottenham’s supposed problem was an incurable one.
However, O’Hara was far from finished and made an even stronger claim about the club’s campaign last season.
O’Hara says Spurs should have gone down
The former Tottenham player suggested that his old club were fortunate to avoid relegation last season.
“You know what should have happened? We should have gone down. We are so bad,” O’Hara said.
“We’re shocking. The only reason we stayed up is because Aston Villa guffed it and Everton jacked it in at the end of the season.
“I thought we might start the new season and see something different, something positive.
“No, absolute guff again. We don’t deserve to be playing Premier League teams. We are absolutely useless.”
O’Hara then challenged Cundy to identify something positive from Tottenham’s defeat at Anfield.
Cundy responded with a cheeky observation, telling his co-host: “You scored tonight at a Premier League ground. First time that’s happened this season.”
That comment immediately sparked another furious response from O’Hara.
“The problem is we don’t take our chances and are soft,” he said.
“Ice creams. We’re like a flake in 30-degree heat.
“And why is Mathys Tel still playing? I’d rather Richarlison played.
“He’s guff, he’s terrible, he’s got trampoline feet. He’s everything that’s bad about Tottenham. We signed him for £50m.”
O’Hara walks out of talkSPORT studio
After spending more than an hour being teased by Cundy, O’Hara eventually reached his limit during their discussion about Tel.
The 39-year-old briefly walked out of the talkSPORT studio following an argument over whether the French winger should continue featuring for Tottenham.
O’Hara questioned De Zerbi’s decision to keep selecting Tel and argued that the exiled Richarlison could offer Spurs more.
Cundy, meanwhile, sarcastically defended Tel and his importance to the squad, prompting O’Hara to decide that he had heard enough.
Following the break, O’Hara returned to his hosting duties, although Cundy continued to poke fun at his fellow presenter over Tottenham’s latest setback.
