Melvin Matos Signs First Professional Contract With Everton
Everton youngster Melvin Matos has signed his first professional contract with the club, marking another important milestone in his development at Finch Farm.
The 18-year-old midfielder joined the Toffees from Norwich in 2024 and has continued to make progress through the academy system. Everton have made several changes to their academy structure this summer, with a number of young players committing their futures to the club.

Rocco Lambert and Shea Pita have also agreed new deals, while Everton have seen several academy players depart, including Demi Akarakiri, Kingsford Boakye and Coby Ebere. Matos’ new contract represents another indication of the club’s faith in its young talents.
How long is Matos’ Everton contract?
Everton have confirmed that Matos has signed a deal running until June 2028.

The agreement gives the club the next two years to continue monitoring his progress and determine whether he can eventually make the step up to senior football. If he impresses during that period, he could put himself in contention for another contract and potentially a pathway into the first team.
Matos will now be hoping to follow the example of Harrison Armstrong, who has established himself as a promising product of Everton’s academy in recent months.
Who is Everton prospect Melvin Matos?
Matos is a midfielder who models his game on Premier League greats such as N’Golo Kante and Claude Makelele.
He describes himself as a tenacious and energetic player who enjoys winning the ball back and disrupting opposition attacks.
Since joining Everton, Matos has made 43 appearances for the Under-18s. He scored his first goal for the age group during a 1-1 draw against Blackburn in April 2025 and has also captained the side on five occasions.
The youngster made his Under-21 debut against Brighton in March, playing for 30 minutes in a 5-0 defeat. He has not featured again at that level yet, but the 2026/27 campaign could provide him with further opportunities to prove himself.
What did Matos say about signing his first professional contract?
Speaking to Everton’s official website, Matos admitted that signing his first professional contract was a dream come true and believes it is another step forward in his development.
He said:
«“It means a lot. It’s a step in the right direction to keep on pushing and it’s a good moment – a dream come true. I’m really happy with it.»
«“I developed a lot last season. We did very well in the league and we did well in the Youth Cup. I feel it was an achievement to become captain a few times.»
«“I’ve developed quite a bit from when I first came here to then become captain, so that was a really proud moment for me.”»
Matos will now be determined to build on his progress and continue developing with Everton. If his growth continues at the current rate, the midfielder could eventually earn an opportunity to make his mark on the Toffees’ first team.
