Dominic Solanke names exciting thing he expects from ‘electric’ Savio at Tottenham

Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has spoken candidly about what his recent Carabao Cup goal signifies for him personally, following several challenging seasons marred by injury setbacks.

On Wednesday night, Spurs secured their first victory of the campaign, cruising past Championship side Charlton Athletic 5-1 in the second round of the Carabao Cup. Roberto De Zerbi’s men delivered a ruthless attacking display, with Solanke netting the team’s second goal on his first start of the season—a classic poacher’s finish, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up in the Charlton box.

Solanke on his fitness comeback

Reflecting on his return to action, the English striker shared his emotions with Tottenham’s official website: “100 per cent—strikers live for goals. I was devastated to end last season injured, but being back out there today, especially at home in front of our fans, feels incredible. Scoring never gets old.”

He also assessed the team’s overall performance and tactical rhythm: “It was a solid display. There’s always room to improve, but after about 30 minutes, we started to find our patterns and players got into the right positions. After the weekend loss, we wanted a strong response, and we got that. We played well, but we’re hungry for more.”

Moore’s breakthrough and confidence boost

Teenager Moore ignited the rout with a fierce strike from inside the box, which Solanke believes shifted the game’s momentum: “Confidence is huge in football. When a team is tough to break down, that first goal changes everything—spaces open up and you build momentum. We saw that tonight.”

Solanke backs new signing Savio

Wednesday also marked the home debut of 22-year-old Savio, who replaced Solanke in the final 20 minutes and made an instant impact with a goal and an assist. Solanke watched from the bench with admiration: “Incredible. I was just watching with joy. Every time he got the ball, he looked sharp and electric. His goal was great—though I thought he’d got a second, but the replay showed it hit Benny. Still, a goal and an assist—you can’t ask for more.”

Solanke believes Savio’s direct dribbling style will benefit him up front: “Players like him, in one-on-ones, beat their defender nine times out of ten. As a striker, it’s reassuring to know your winger will get to the byline. Hopefully he settles in quickly and chips in with a few assists for me too.”

Eyes on Newcastle

With a home clash against Newcastle United looming this weekend, Solanke is eager to keep his scoring run going: “As a striker, scoring early in the season is vital for building momentum. Once you start, you don’t want to stop—so hopefully I can add more on the weekend.”
