Everton have perfect Idrissa Gueye replacement amid £20m Shea Charles reveal

Everton are reportedly lining up a potential successor to Idrissa Gueye, with rising midfielder Shea Charles emerging as a key target following recent interest in the Southampton star.

The 22-year-old grabbed headlines after scoring the decisive goal in FA Cup match Southampton vs Arsenal April 2026, sealing a 2-1 victory over league leaders Arsenal. His late impact off the bench at St Mary’s has drawn attention from several Premier League clubs, including Everton, now managed by David Moyes.

According to reports, Everton are not alone in tracking Charles, with Manchester United also monitoring his progress. The midfielder is believed to be valued at around £20 million, and securing his signature ahead of United would signal strong intent from Everton’s ownership group.

Charles has long been on Everton’s radar, dating back to his time in Manchester City’s academy. With Gueye nearing the end of his contract—despite the option of a one-year extension—the club appears to be planning for the future.

His cameo against Arsenal offered a glimpse of his quality, scoring with his only shot while completing 89% of his passes and showing composure in possession.

Although his defensive contribution in that short appearance was limited, he still demonstrated physical presence by winning his aerial duels.
Looking at his broader performances in the Championship, Charles has made 24 appearances, starting 16 matches.

He has maintained an 85% pass accuracy, created three major chances, and averaged solid defensive numbers including interceptions, tackles, clearances, and ball recoveries per game.

In duels, he has been moderately effective, winning 59% on the ground and just under half in aerial contests. Altogether, his consistent displays suggest he could be a strong long-term replacement for Gueye—provided he can translate that form to the Premier League level.
