Moroccan Grinta reports that Hamza Igamane will finally sign his Rangers contract on Thursday when he takes a plane to Glasgow.
The African publication, which has been discussed on Rangers Review, stated on July 4 that the Morocco international is anticipated to play in the Gers’ preseason match on July 20 against Manchester United.
The deal is reported to be worth around £2million and has been in the pipeline for some time now (Football Scotland, 28 June).
Why Philippe Clement wanted to bring Hamza Igamane to Rangers
After what feels like a lifetime, Rangers fans will be happy to know that their chase for the transfer of Igamane is finally set to come to a close.
The Glasgow-based outfit have been linked with the striker since near to the start of the window [KoraMaroc, 16 June] as the club looked to sign some attacking reinforcements.
Although the Gers have the likes of Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers within their ranks, the duo’s form across the 2023/24 season was far too inconsistent for them to try and dethrone arch-rivals Celtic – with the latter shunted out on loan for the second half of the campaign.
And, after Dessers handed in a transfer request [Soccernet, 25 June], the Gers have been looking to bolster their options in front of goal.
Igamane will be the first number nine addition to the side and, despite being on the younger side much like the other arrivals, could help lead the line next season.
Across the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns, the striker managed to score a total of 16 goals in the Botola Pro 1 League and Clement will hope that he can make his mark in Scottish football now.
Although he may not start week-in and week-out, Igamane will no doubt be a significant piece to Clement’s puzzle this term.
In other Rangers news, the Gers might have already found their Todd Cantwell replacement.
