Dugarry went as far as describing De Zerbi’s five-year contract with Tottenham as a “genuine robbery” as the north London club continues to struggle badly at the beginning of the Premier League season.
Dugarry Questions De Zerbi’s Credentials
De Zerbi has come under increasing pressure following Tottenham’s disappointing start to the campaign, with the club still searching for their first Premier League victory.
Dugarry believes serious questions should now be asked about whether the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager has the experience and credentials required to succeed at one of England’s biggest clubs.
Speaking to RMC Sport, the former France international did not hold back when assessing De Zerbi’s managerial reputation.
“I have never really understood what his level actually is,” Dugarry said.
“They tell me he did well at Brighton, Sassuolo and other clubs, but for me he is still not an absolute guarantee for coaching the big teams.
“He signed a five-year contract. What he has done is a genuine robbery, without even needing to wear a mask. It is incredible.”
Tottenham’s Poor Start Raises More Questions
Dugarry’s comments come as Tottenham endure one of their most frustrating starts to a Premier League campaign.
Spurs have collected only two points from their opening four league matches and are yet to score a goal in the competition.
Their attacking struggles have become particularly concerning, with Tottenham now having gone more than 400 minutes without finding the back of the net.
Back-to-back 0-0 draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton have only increased the pressure surrounding De Zerbi and his players.
The frustration among supporters was evident during the latest draw with Everton, with sections of the Tottenham crowd booing the team at the final whistle.

Tottenham’s disappointing results have become even more difficult to accept given the enormous amount of money invested in the squad during the summer transfer window.
Spurs reportedly spent around €350 million strengthening De Zerbi’s squad, raising expectations that the club would finally turn their fortunes around after several difficult campaigns.
