adminTottenham Hotspur have reportedly struck a verbal agreement with Manchester City to sign Savinho for a fee exceeding £75 million, per transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
The North London club have pursued the Brazilian winger for over a year, having attempted to land him last summer before City blocked the exit and extended his contract.
However, after a limited role under Pep Guardiola this past season, Spurs have renewed their push and finally secured a deal to bring him into Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.
Romano reports that the two sides have come to terms on a package worth more than £75m, with the player now set to undergo a medical ahead of Tottenham’s season opener this weekend.
There is also interest from Spurs in signing Savinho’s City teammate Omar Marmoush in a potential double swoop, though Romano notes that negotiations for the Egyptian are currently separate and still in progress.
Savinho had already communicated his desire to leave City for consistent first-team minutes, and he has now been given the go-ahead to make that move.
Tottenham have been highly active in the summer market already, securing Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali. Still, the manager is keen to strengthen his attacking options with at least three additions.
In addition to Savinho and Marmoush, the club are exploring a move for Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, while Pedro Neto has also been mentioned—though it’s believed the Portuguese winger was viewed as a backup option to the Brazilian.
Savinho came close to joining Spurs last year, only for Guardiola to intervene at the last moment, hoping to nurture the youngster’s talent. At the time, Guardiola publicly praised the 22-year-old, saying: “I am only concerned right now that Savinho will be with us for the rest of the season and hopefully many years, because of the potential he has at 21. He has to improve in final positions but he is an extraordinary player.”
New City boss Enzo Maresca appears less determined to retain him, and Tottenham have now landed their target just in time for Sunday afternoon’s Premier League clash against Newcastle.
