The biggest transformation has come in midfield, where Spurs have completed blockbuster moves for Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali in deals worth a combined £185 million.
Both players are expected to become central figures in De Zerbi’s plans as the club looks to climb the table and compete more consistently.
Despite those marquee arrivals, Tottenham’s recruitment drive is far from over. Club officials remain determined to add further quality across the squad before the transfer window closes, with spending potentially rising beyond the £300 million mark if more targets are secured.
One position receiving particular attention is the attack. Spurs’ struggles in front of goal last season exposed the need for greater firepower, making attacking reinforcements a top priority during the remainder of the window.
The club no longer boasts the devastating partnership of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son that once struck fear into Premier League defences. As a result, De Zerbi is tasked with rebuilding an attack capable of delivering goals on a regular basis.
Richarlison finished as Tottenham’s leading league scorer in the 2025/26 season with 11 goals, but uncertainty continues to surround his long-term future in North London. Beyond the Brazilian, no senior attacker managed more than four Premier League goals, with Mathys Tel reaching that tally despite making only 13 starts.
Injuries have further complicated matters. Mohammed Kudus, Wilson Odobert and Dejan Kulusevski remain unavailable, while there is no clear timetable for their returns. At the same time, promising youngsters Dane Scarlett and Mikey Moore are expected to leave on temporary loan deals, reducing De Zerbi’s attacking options even further.
Tottenham’s return of just 48 league goals last season underlines the scale of the problem and explains why the club is prepared to continue spending in search of proven attacking quality.
One player who has once again emerged as a serious target is Manchester City winger Savinho. Spurs were interested in the Brazilian last summer and have reportedly renewed their pursuit after the player expressed a willingness to move to North London. However, the financial demands of any potential transfer remain unclear.
Alongside Savinho, Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has also become a leading candidate. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Tottenham have held discussions with representatives of the Dutch international and believe he would be an excellent addition to De Zerbi’s squad.
Romano added that Liverpool are not actively looking to sell Gakpo and remain pleased with his performances. Any deal, therefore, would depend on Tottenham presenting an offer significant enough to convince the Reds to reconsider their position.
Reports suggest that signing Gakpo could cost around £72 million, yet that valuation has not discouraged Tottenham from exploring the possibility of bringing him to the club.
While Savinho remains a highly regarded talent, Gakpo’s Premier League experience and overall productivity arguably make him the stronger option. Last season, the Liverpool forward recorded six times as many goal contributions as the Manchester City winger, despite many viewing it as a relatively quiet campaign by his own standards.
The Dutch international also demonstrated his finishing ability by scoring 18 goals in all competitions the previous season, highlighting the consistent goal threat Tottenham have lacked in recent years.
Beyond his scoring record, Gakpo also impressed with his ability to beat defenders and create opportunities for teammates, completing a higher percentage of successful dribbles and producing more chances per 90 minutes than Savinho in the league.
His winning experience could also prove invaluable. Having already collected Premier League titles during his time in England, Gakpo brings a level of pedigree that aligns with De Zerbi’s ambition of transforming Tottenham into genuine contenders once again.
Although a £72 million fee would represent another significant investment, it could be the type of signing that finally gives Spurs the cutting edge they have been missing. Savinho would undoubtedly strengthen the squad, but if Tottenham are aiming to make a major leap forward, securing Cody Gakpo would appear to be the more impactful transfer.
