Spence’s rise has been one of the biggest surprises in English football. Many questioned Thomas Tuchel’s decision to include the Tottenham defender in England’s 26-man World Cup squad, but the versatile full-back silenced critics with a series of impressive performances on both flanks, emerging as one of the Three Lions’ standout players.
The 24-year-old only made his senior England debut last September, shortly after signing a new long-term contract with Spurs. Despite his growing reputation and popularity, reports suggest Tottenham would still consider offers if the right bid arrives.
Meanwhile, Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi has overseen a major squad rebuild, spending around £250 million on new signings after consecutive 17th-place Premier League finishes. Sandro Tonali’s £100 million arrival has been the headline addition, but the North London club are also expected to balance the books through player sales.
Newcastle are not only monitoring Spence but are also believed to be interested in Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall. Reports claim an initial £46 million offer for Bergvall was rejected, with the youngster eager to secure regular first-team football.
The Magpies remain determined to add another quality full-back, as Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall currently face limited competition for starting places.
However, Tottenham are expected to demand a significant transfer fee for Spence following his impressive World Cup displays and recent contract extension.
Newcastle may also face competition from Inter Milan, who are searching for a replacement after Denzel Dumfries’ move to Real Madrid. Reports from Italy suggest Spence would be open to joining the Serie A giants if a deal can be agreed.
