The talented 21-year-old attracted strong interest during the summer transfer window after an outstanding campaign with West Ham. Manchester United were among the clubs eager to sign him, while Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur also monitored his situation closely.
Reports suggested that Fernandes initially preferred a move to Old Trafford. However, Manchester United were unwilling to meet West Ham’s asking price, opening the door for Tottenham to step in. Spurs eventually reached an agreement worth around £85 million after United decided not to match the offer.
Although he is now set to begin a new chapter in North London, Fernandes hinted that the opportunity to play alongside Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United would have been a dream, given the admiration he has for the Portuguese international.
Speaking after his arrival at Tottenham, Fernandes expressed his excitement about joining the club and explained that head coach Roberto De Zerbi was the decisive factor behind his decision.
“I’m very happy and excited about this next step in my career,” Fernandes said. “Tottenham is a massive club. I already know the city and the country, and after speaking with the manager, I felt this was the right place for me.
