Luka Vušković sends a huge message to Tottenham amid potential return rumours

Following Hamburger SV’s final home game of the season, Tottenham Hotspur loanee Luka Vušković has confirmed that he will not be staying with the Bundesliga side.

The defender told Kicker: “To a 99.9 percent certainty, it was my farewell party.” It was not a bad way to go out, as Vušković scored in a 3-2 victory over Freiburg. Hamburg still have one more match remaining—an away fixture against Bayer Leverkusen this Saturday.

The center-back has been a key figure for the German side this season. In 28 appearances, he has scored six goals and provided one assist. Vušković has helped Hamburg secure a comfortable mid-table finish in their first season back in the Bundesliga.

Tottenham are expected to retain their Premier League status following West Ham’s loss to Arsenal last weekend. After an impressive campaign in Germany, Vušković may now be hoping for an opportunity in the Premier League.

Vušković has proven this season that he can perform at a high level in a top European league. Whether he will be good enough for the Premier League remains another question. However, he is undoubtedly one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe.

The player joined Spurs from Hajduk Split in 2025. He featured in one friendly match against Reading, scoring and providing an assist. But when it came to competitive action, Vušković made the bench for Tottenham on three occasions before being sent on loan to Hamburg.

Thomas Frank was still in charge of Spurs when Vušković was loaned to the German side. Now, with Roberto De Zerbi at the helm, the center-back may finally get his chance.

Micky van de Ven’s future remains uncertain, while Cristian Romero has been unreliable this season. Adding a young, hungry player like Vušković could be just what Spurs need.

Vušković may also have options away from Tottenham, with Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona reportedly interested in signing him. Staying in the Bundesliga with one of the division’s top clubs could benefit his development further.

Joining PSG might be tempting, as they are on the verge of winning Ligue 1 and are competing in the Champions League final. The same applies to Barcelona, who have already clinched La Liga.

However, Vušković—still only 19—must ensure that wherever he goes next, he receives regular playing time. He already has five caps for Croatia and is expected to feature at the World Cup this summer.
