“I’m told’- Insider; Man United plots ambitious move to sign Tottenham star

Micky van de Ven is increasingly expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with Manchester United emerging as the latest contender to pursue the defender.

The 25-year-old may look to exit north London even if Spurs avoid relegation, following what has been another disappointing season.

Though Tottenham recently climbed above West Ham and out of the drop zone, simply staying up might not be enough to retain their top talents.

According to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, speaking to Football Insider, the club is interested in Van de Ven as part of their plans to reinforce the defence.

Concerns over the form and fitness of some current centre-backs have prompted United to explore the market, and Van de Ven is seen as an ambitious but realistic target.

Could Van de Ven swap Tottenham for Manchester United?

In March, Football Insider exclusively reported that Van de Ven is unhappy at Spurs, and contract extension talks have so far failed. Although Tottenham still control his future—his current deal runs until 2029—many clubs are circling.

With United having secured Champions League qualification for next season, they are eager to upgrade their squad, and Van de Ven is on their radar.

Brown explained: “Persuading players to join Man United has never been a problem. Being in the Champions League next season is a big financial boost and helps attract players. Centre-back is a priority. Maguire has another year, but who partners him?

The young lads Heaven and Yoro have impressed, but senior players like Martinez and De Ligt have injury and consistency issues. United want an experienced, reliable centre-back alongside Maguire, and I’m told Micky van de Ven is someone they’re looking at.

He might leave Tottenham even if they stay up because he wants to play at a higher level, and United can offer that. He’d be an ambitious target, but they like him and need to strengthen there.”

Which other clubs could move for Van de Ven?

Manchester United aren’t alone in the chase. Football Insider reported in March that Liverpool are keen on Van de Ven and received a boost as Barcelona may struggle to meet Spurs’ asking price. Arne Slot is said to be a big fan, and adding a centre-back has become a priority for Liverpool after a tough season.

Barcelona, meanwhile, want to bolster their defence as they close in on the La Liga title, but financial constraints could hamper a move. Premier League clubs are generally in stronger financial shape than European rivals, though Van de Ven’s final destination remains uncertain.
