Unai Emery responds to Aston Villa boos after 2-1 Tottenham defeat

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has urged fans to keep things in perspective after they booed the team during and following a 2–1 home loss to Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently battling near the relegation zone.

Tottenham took control early through Conor Gallagher, and Richarlison made it 2–0 in the 25th minute. Emi Buendía scored a late consolation for Villa in the 96th minute, but the defeat marked Villa’s third straight loss—a run not seen since November 2024.

Speaking after the match, Emery addressed the jeers from the home support at half-time and full-time:
“I’ve been here for over three years, and I haven’t forgotten everything we’ve achieved. We talked in the dressing room at half-time about how we’re progressing. We can play better or worse, but I’m not losing my mind or changing my approach. We lost because Tottenham were better on the day. They’re a very good team, and even if they’re not competing where we are right now, we have to be realistic.”

He added: “Tottenham played a fantastic game, scoring two quick goals and taking control. We tried to respond, especially in the second half, but it wasn’t enough. That reaction, though, is something we must carry into our next matches.

“Now we have the Europa League semi-final second leg—a different opponent. We’ll prepare to give our best.”
