During Saturday’s 3pm Premier League clash at home to David Moyes’ side, West Ham United legend Tony Gale didn’t hold back in his criticism of Niclas Fullkrug.
While West Ham rolled the dice on their Premier League survival by bringing in Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos during the January window, their £27 million misfit has already seen his fate in Serie A sealed after a forgettable few months in Italy. Fullkrug has managed just one goal in 16 appearances for AC Milan.
In fact, since joining West Ham from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024, the once-reliable finisher has scored only four times in 42 league matches—a record that earned him little sympathy from the Upton Park icon. Unsurprisingly, Milan have decided against making his move permanent.
Niclas Fullkrug called a ‘waste of money’ at West Ham
Speaking on Now TV the day before Milan’s tense San Siro meeting with Juventus—a crucial match for two sides with Champions League aspirations—Gale was blunt. When Fullkrug’s name came up, he said: “Shocking. An absolute waste of money.”
Considering Castellanos has already outscored Fullkrug for West Ham despite playing 12 fewer games for the London club, the £27 million spent on the Argentine looks like a far better investment.
According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan have ‘no plans’ to keep Fullkrug beyond this season, even though his contract includes a £4 million purchase option. That leaves the veteran striker very much West Ham’s problem to sort out.
