Tim Sherwood warns De Zerbi not to trust one Tottenham player who could get him sacked
Following Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Sunderland on Sunday, former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood strongly criticized Cristian Romero.

The defender was substituted in the 70th minute at the Stadium of Light after a heavy collision with Antonin Kinsky, with Kevin Danso coming on in his place. Argentine journalist Gastón Edul later reported that Romero will undergo a series of medical tests.
“Cuti Romero has some instability in his knee. They will analyze the ligaments to determine whether he has injured his internal collateral ligament or if it was just the impact. The pain is there,” Edul tweeted.

With Spurs just two points above the relegation zone, an injury to a key player is the last thing manager Roberto De Zerbi needed. After the match, De Zerbi stressed Romero’s importance: “I hope it’s not a serious issue.
He’s a crucial player for us—a good person, a great player with strong character. We need him for the final stretch of the season.”
Clearly worried about missing the run-in and potentially the World Cup with Argentina, Romero left the pitch in tears. But Sherwood showed little sympathy. Speaking on Sky Sports, he took aim at the 27-year-old and his defensive partner Micky van de Ven.

“Romero crying as he comes off the pitch—irresponsible. I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him. He’s the club captain, yet he’s thrown the club under the bus repeatedly this season. And van de Ven, for me, has all the talent to be a top player, but he plays for himself.”
Romero has been involved in several controversies this season. He publicly criticized Spurs for failing to strengthen sufficiently in the January transfer window, and days later was sent off in the first half of a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.
Still, his frustrations may have been justified, as Conor Gallagher has struggled since arriving from Atlético Madrid, with Alasdair Gold criticizing his performances.
Despite sometimes letting his team down, Romero’s absence could be a major blow for De Zerbi. In the Sunderland defeat, he was arguably one of Spurs’ better players, completing more defensive actions (9) than any of his teammates.
