Conor Gallagher reveals details behind Roberto De Zerbi one-on-one meetings at Tottenham

Conor Gallagher has opened up on the impact Roberto De Zerbi has made behind the scenes since arriving at Tottenham Hotspur, revealing how the Italian has transformed the atmosphere within the squad.

Even during Tottenham’s toughest moments this season, when the club looked in real danger of relegation, De Zerbi continued to insist that Spurs were capable of staying in the Premier League.

That confidence now appears to have spread throughout the dressing room and the supporters, with consecutive victories over Wolves and Aston Villa lifting Tottenham out of the relegation zone.

Spurs were particularly impressive in their 2-1 victory at Villa Park on Sunday, producing one of their most complete performances of the campaign as De Zerbi’s influence on the team becomes increasingly visible.

Gallagher has now explained some of the methods the Tottenham boss has used to rebuild belief within the squad. De Zerbi recently admitted that he even encouraged certain players to watch their own highlight reels on YouTube in an effort to restore confidence.

The midfielder praised the head coach for the personal attention he has given players, revealing that De Zerbi has held several one-on-one meetings and conversations with members of the squad.

Speaking to Football.London, Gallagher said: “The gaffer has been brilliant with us. He’s brought the team together. He’s really worked on players individually with one-to-one meetings and one-to-one chats, trying to get that belief and confidence back in the players. He’s done that with me and it’s made a big difference.

“I know he’s done that with a lot of the other lads. As a team as well, all the work he’s done on the training pitch and in the meeting rooms has been fantastic, and everyone is on the same page.”

De Zerbi previously stated after taking charge at Tottenham that he wanted Gallagher to rediscover the level he showed during his best spell at Chelsea, and the midfielder now appears to be thriving under the Italian’s guidance.

Gallagher delivered an outstanding display against Aston Villa, operating in an advanced midfield role and playing a key part in Spurs’ victory.

After the match, De Zerbi praised the England international, claiming it feels like Tottenham are playing with 12 men whenever Gallagher performs at his highest level.
