Chris Sutton predicts Tottenham score as Aston Villa face Europa League distraction

Chris Sutton has shared his score prediction for Sunday’s matchup between Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.

With relegation to the Championship looming, Spurs are counting on results elsewhere to go their way. Brentford gave them a boost on Saturday afternoon by beating West Ham United, which means Tottenham can climb to 17th—overtaking West Ham—if they beat Villa.

Sutton predicts defeat as Spurs face a tough Villa test

Villa come into the game off two narrow 1-0 losses—against Nottingham Forest in the Europa League semi-final and Fulham in the league. Spurs, meanwhile, are looking to build on their own 1-0 win over Wolves.

Still, Chris Sutton isn’t convinced Tottenham will carry that momentum forward. Writing for BBC Sport, he said: “Tottenham probably need to win three of their last four games to stay up.

Yes, they finally won in 2026 against Wolves, but I’m not sure it gave them any real momentum. It was a huge result for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, but Wolves are dreadful, and Spurs made hard work of it.

“What helps Spurs is that Villa have their Europa League semi-final second leg against Forest to think about. Even so, I still think Villa will be too good. This defeat would push Spurs closer to the drop and a trip to my old club Lincoln in the Championship next season.”

Sutton’s prediction: 2-0.

A must-seize opportunity at Villa Park for Spurs
Tottenham can’t afford to let this chance slip. Three points have to be the priority as they try to take control of their own fate in the final weeks of the season. Villa are beatable—they have one of the worst records in the league over the last 11 games—and Spurs’ history at Villa Park is encouraging, having won eight of their last ten visits there.
