Tottenham have the second fastest player in the Premier League, but it’s not Micky van de Ven
A Tottenham Hotspur player currently boasts the second-fastest top speed recorded in the Premier League this season.
When asked to name Spurs’ quickest player, most fans would immediately point to Micky van de Ven—and for good reason. During his debut Premier League season, no one clocked a higher top speed than the Dutch defender. Despite injury struggles, he once again led the league in top speed last season. This term, however, he hasn’t even cracked the top ten.
Destiny Udogie is Spurs’ fastest this season
Using data from Opta, GiveMeSport has ranked the ten highest top speeds recorded in the Premier League so far this campaign. Surprisingly, Destiny Udogie sits in second place with a recorded speed of 36.41 km/h. The only player ahead of him is Wolves’ Jackson Tchatchoua (37.3 km/h).
No other Tottenham player appears in the top ten. Rounding out the top five are Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga (36.35 km/h), Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo (36.34 km/h), and Chelsea’s Pedro Neto (36.32 km/h).
Udogie’s fitness problems remain a major worry for Spurs
Udogie started both of Roberto De Zerbi’s first two matches in charge—against Sunderland and Brighton—but he may miss the upcoming game against Wolves. According to The Sun, the Italian international is a doubt for the trip to Molineux after picking up yet another injury.
Spurs supporters are growing frustrated with his recurring fitness issues, with some fearing the left-back could become another Darren Anderton.
