Hero Callum Wilson reveals West Ham dressing room reaction to Spurs win

The significance of Callum Wilson’s last-gasp winner for West Ham against Everton became evident once news broke that Tottenham had finally secured their first victory of 2026.

Saturday’s Premier League action saw the relegation battle heat up, with both West Ham and Spurs picking up crucial wins.

In a dramatic ten-minute spell, West Ham swung from being on track to move four points clear of their fierce rivals Tottenham, to slipping back into the relegation zone, and then climbing back out again.

The Hammers were leading Everton 1–0, while Spurs were stuck in a goalless stalemate with already-relegated Wolves.

Wilson admits West Ham players checked Spurs’ result
Tottenham broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute, but West Ham promptly conceded an equalizer, dropping them back into the bottom three and allowing Spurs to leapfrog them.

However, second-half substitute Callum Wilson emerged as the hero, netting a vital winner in the 92nd minute to keep West Ham above Tottenham and leave their survival fate in their own hands. Wilson had also scored a late turnaround goal against Spurs back in January, helping West Ham to a 2–1 win in north London.

When the final whistle blew against Everton, relief outweighed joy—especially with Tottenham also winning. Roberto De Zerbi had boldly claimed Spurs could win all their remaining five games, and his side kept that slim hope alive.

But how did West Ham’s players react to news of Tottenham’s first league win in four months? Wilson revealed the mood in the Hammers’ dressing room, confirming they were fully aware of the result once back in the changing room.

Spurs’ win hasn’t shaken West Ham’s composure, says Wilson
Despite the result, it doesn’t seem to have caused panic or rattled nerves. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has stressed that his players are concentrating on what they can control rather than Tottenham’s results. While Wilson admitted that’s not entirely the case, West Ham remain firmly focused on staying out of the drop zone.

“The most important thing is the three points, but of course I’m delighted to get on the scoresheet, especially the way it happened,” Wilson told West Ham TV. “We’ll go into next week the same way and keep building on what we’re working on… Like I said, we’re all together, we’re in this as one, and we’ll give everything in every game to get the job done.”

Wilson and his teammates have a chance to turn up the pressure on Spurs next weekend. West Ham’s survival hopes have also received a boost from a double injury blow to Tottenham, whose win over Wolves came at a significant cost.

Nuno’s side travel to Brentford on Saturday, where a victory would extend their gap over Spurs to five points—before Spurs face a tough trip to Aston Villa on Sunday.
