‘I didn’t know’ – De Zerbi makes promise to Tottenham fans ahead of Leeds six-pointer
Roberto De Zerbi has responded after Tottenham Hotspur fans unveiled fresh plans to rally behind the team ahead of a critical weekend clash, with the buildup taking an unexpected twist.
There’s no question that Spurs supporters have been doing their part in the club’s fight for Premier League survival this season. Before the recent match against Nottingham Forest, fans turned out in force to create an electric atmosphere at the pre-match coach gathering, and that energy carried into the stadium.
Unfortunately, their efforts fell flat as Spurs slumped to a disappointing 3-0 defeat on home soil.

Spurs boss reacts to fans’ coach meet plans
Tottenham are back at home this weekend to face Brighton & Hove Albion at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where another victory is vital in their bid to escape the relegation zone before West Ham play on Monday.
Supporters had arranged a similar pre-match coach reception, but their plans were disrupted by De Zerbi’s own matchday preparations. Speaking to Football.London, the Spurs manager addressed the situation, admitting he wasn’t aware of the fans’ intentions while expressing his willingness to accommodate them in the future.
“I didn’t know the fans wanted to do this again,” De Zerbi said. “I am very sensitive to the fans and what they want to do. I consider the fans of every team like they are a player. I didn’t know [their plans], but next time, if people ask me to change the schedule, no problem for me.”
Balancing fan support with matchday routines
The Tottenham boss was also asked how his side will approach their final preparations before the match. Explaining his usual structure and how it compares to previous methods, he outlined a familiar routine while acknowledging the positive role fans can still play.
He added: “Like at Brighton, I organise matchdays the same way. We arrive four hours before kick-off, have a 40- to 45-minute meeting, then lunch and final preparations — nothing more. I don’t want to put pressure on the players with my plan. But what the fans want to do is good for us — it’s something extra.”
