Tottenham green-light exit for injured star as he agrees to join European giants

According to recent reports, Tottenham have approved the departure of an injured player this summer, and the Spurs star has already agreed to a contract with another club.

Tottenham braced for Brighton as De Zerbi seeks first win of 2026
This week, Spurs find themselves in the Premier League relegation zone for the first time in decades, and the club’s situation is becoming increasingly complicated.

Roberto De Zerbi has managed just one match so far—a 1-0 loss at Sunderland that offered little encouragement—and now faces his former team Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday. With only six games left, this clash will test whether his arrival can spark any turnaround.

Opta now gives Spurs a relegation probability of nearly 49%, and recent form provides little hope: just five points from their last 14 league matches, an ongoing 14-game winless run in 2026 that shows no signs of ending (ESPN). Captain Cristian Romero is out for the season after a knee injury at the Stadium of Light.

He joins Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, Wilson Odobert, and Ben Davies on an injury list that has drained the squad of quality and depth during the season’s most critical weeks. Brighton arrive on Saturday having won three consecutive away league games—a daunting prospect for a home side that has managed only two league wins at their own ground all season.

One of several doubts for the match is goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who has yet to return to training following hernia surgery, meaning Antonin Kinsky is poised to start in goal for now. Speaking of Vicario, the Italian has been heavily linked with a summer move back to his homeland, and L’Interista has provided a fresh update.

Tottenham green-light Guglielmo Vicario exit after Inter agreement
According to L’Interista, Inter Milan have never wavered in their pursuit of Vicario and have identified the 29-year-old as their top choice to replace the departing Yann Sommer at San Siro.

Despite recent reports suggesting the Nerazzurri might reconsider other options, the outlet—which has consistently covered this story throughout the season—confirms that Vicario has always been Inter’s preferred target, and that stance remains unchanged.

Crucially, L’Interista reports that an agreement in principle on personal terms has already been reached between Inter and the player. The proposed deal is a four-year contract worth approximately £2.5 million per season, meaning Vicario would commit to the Italian champions until 2030. The contract is described as essentially ready to be signed.

Tottenham, for their part, are not expected to block the move. The only remaining detail is the transfer fee. Inter plan to approach Spurs with an offer in the region of £17 million—the same amount Tottenham paid Empoli for Vicario back in 2023. Whether a club facing either a relegation battle or a Championship rebuild is in a strong enough position to demand more remains to be seen. What is clear is that another departure from a squad already stretched to its breaking point is on the way.
