Jack Grealish Transfer Future Takes Fresh Twist as Sunderland, Everton and Aston Villa Enter the Race
Sunderland have emerged as a potential destination for Jack Grealish, while former clubs Everton and Aston Villa have also renewed their interest in the Manchester City winger as he considers what comes next in his career.
Sources have provided TEAMtalk with insight into Grealish’s current situation, with the 30-year-old facing an important decision before the transfer window closes.
Grealish is currently part of Manchester City’s first-team squad after being given another opportunity to impress under Enzo Maresca, who is understood to be a strong admirer of the England international.
The winger had previously fallen out of favour under former City manager Pep Guardiola. However, Maresca has taken a different approach and has opened the door for Grealish to fight his way back into the team.
The former Aston Villa star spent last season on loan at Everton, where he enjoyed an impressive campaign. Grealish registered eight goal contributions, scoring twice and providing six assists in 22 appearances, while his performances were strong enough to put him in contention for an England recall.
Unfortunately, foot surgery brought his season to an early end.
Grealish returned to Manchester City during the summer and has already featured in the opening matches of the new campaign. He came off the bench during the Community Shield against Arsenal before again being introduced as a substitute in City’s opening Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.
Remaining at Manchester City is therefore still a possibility, but discussions with interested clubs are continuing as Grealish weighs up his options.
Everton, Villa and Sunderland All Showing Interest
Everton are keen on bringing Grealish back to the club after being impressed by his impact during his loan spell last season. His performances made him a popular figure among supporters, and the Toffees are exploring the possibility of securing his return.
Aston Villa have also held talks with Grealish’s representatives as they assess their attacking options and consider a reunion with their former captain.
Grealish enjoyed a hugely successful spell at Villa before completing his £100million move to Manchester City in 2021. The possibility of returning to his boyhood club is now being explored, with Villa hoping his strong connection to the club could work in their favour.
Sunderland have also entered the race after making an ambitious approach for the England international.
The Black Cats’ interest adds another intriguing dimension to the situation, leaving Grealish with a major decision to make over whether to remain at Manchester City or seek a fresh challenge elsewhere.
Another important factor is Grealish’s contract situation. With the winger entering the final 12 months of his current Manchester City deal, the club must determine what to do with his future. City could be open to a sale if Grealish makes it clear that he wants to leave.
For now, however, he remains a Manchester City player and has been given the opportunity to impress under Maresca.
With Sunderland pushing to make an ambitious signing and Everton and Aston Villa continuing dialogue, the race for Grealish appears to remain open ahead of the transfer deadline.
Villa are also hoping to strengthen their attack after finally reaching a £65million agreement for Nicolas Jackson.
Unai Emery’s side have additionally entered talks over a West Ham defender after suffering a setback in their pursuit of Joel Ordonez.
Meanwhile, Sunderland have agreed personal terms over an ambitious move for Igor Paixao. Arsenal are also considering a late approach for the player, with Marseille’s position regarding his potential departure adding further intrigue to the developing transfer situation.
