adminIpswich Town manager Gary O’Neil has expressed his disappointment over the departure of winger Wes Burns, who has joined Leicester City.
A firm favorite among supporters, Burns played a key role in three promotion-winning campaigns under former boss Kieran McKenna. He signed a one-year contract extension with the Tractor Boys at the start of July.
Just a month later, however, the 31-year-old was sold to Leicester—recently relegated to League One—for an estimated £75,000, agreeing to a three-year deal with the Foxes.
Speaking about the transfer, O’Neil said: “I actually played alongside Wes for a short time at Bristol City! He’s had a remarkable career since then and has given tremendous service to this club.
“It was only right that he stayed. We fully expected him to be part of our plans this season, and that was the right call.

“But when an offer like a three-year contract comes along, given everything he’s contributed, there’s no way we’d stand in his way.
“I’m gutted we won’t have him here, but I’m happy for him personally.
“The service he’s given this club won’t be forgotten. I know everyone here is incredibly grateful for everything he’s done.”
