Florian Wirtz on the Leeds United pre-season test and Liverpool’s ambitions

“I’ve really enjoyed training—every session is competitive. We do a lot of small-sided games and possession work, which is exactly the type of football I love.

But the intensity isn’t just for fun—there’s a clear purpose behind it. The manager wants us to be brave, press collectively, move the ball sharply, and trust each other in every moment of the game.

“The Leeds game is another big step for us. Pre-season isn’t about results—it’s about building the habits that will shape our season. Each match helps us grow as a group and get closer to the standard the staff expect.

“For me, this season feels like a fresh start. What’s happened before is in the past. We’re starting from zero, and everyone has a point to prove. There’s a real hunger in the dressing room, and you can feel belief building day by day in training.

I’m ready for what’s coming, and I genuinely think we have everything we need to fight for every trophy—as long as we keep working the way we are.”
