While Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive frailties and inconsistent goalkeeping have attracted plenty of criticism in recent seasons, their biggest concern has arguably been at the opposite end of the pitch. The lack of a reliable goalscorer has become increasingly evident since Harry Kane’s departure, leaving Spurs searching for fresh attacking inspiration.
During the 2024/25 Premier League campaign under Ange Postecoglou, Brennan Johnson finished as the club’s leading scorer with just 11 league goals. James Maddison and Dominic Solanke followed with nine each, highlighting Tottenham’s inability to produce a truly prolific forward.
The previous season offered little improvement. Richarlison led the scoring charts with 11 league goals, while João Palhinha surprisingly finished second with only five, further exposing the team’s struggles in the final third.
Those underwhelming numbers have prompted Tottenham to look for reinforcements, with Bournemouth sensation Eli Junior Kroupi emerging as one of the club’s leading transfer targets.
Kroupi’s Numbers Stand Out
Kroupi has enjoyed a remarkable rise since joining Bournemouth from Lorient for around £12 million last summer. The French forward scored 13 Premier League goals in his debut season, becoming the most prolific teenage debutant in the club’s history.
Before moving to England, the talented striker had already demonstrated his goalscoring ability by netting 23 times across all competitions in France, including 22 goals in Ligue 2.
Since the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign, Kroupi has accumulated an impressive 36 goals in all competitions, a record that compares favourably with Tottenham’s current attacking options.
Richarlison has managed just 32 goals in total since arriving in North London in 2022, while Dominic Solanke has found the net only 22 times over the past two seasons.
Fellow Frenchman Mathys Tel has also scored 22 senior goals during his career, while Randal Kolo Muani endured a difficult 2025/26 season, registering only five goals before returning to Paris Saint-Germain.
The contrast with Harry Kane’s final campaign at Spurs is striking. The England captain fired home 30 Premier League goals in 2022/23, a level none of Tottenham’s current forwards have come close to matching.
Although Kroupi could inject fresh quality into Roberto De Zerbi’s attack if he completes a move this summer, Spurs know one signing alone is unlikely to solve their attacking issues.
Morgan Rogers Also on Tottenham’s Radar
Alongside their pursuit of Kroupi, Tottenham are reportedly monitoring Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, despite strong interest from Arsenal.
Reports suggest Spurs have already expressed interest in the England international, although Rogers is believed to favour a move to the Emirates following the World Cup. Even so, Tottenham could still attempt to persuade the £100 million-rated attacker to make the switch to North London.
Should both Kroupi and Rogers arrive, De Zerbi would have the foundation of an exciting new-look frontline capable of transforming Spurs’ attacking fortunes.
A Potentially Devastating Partnership
Kroupi has already established himself as one of the Premier League’s most clinical young finishers. His 13 league goals last season came from an outstanding 25 percent conversion rate, while he squandered only three clear-cut opportunities throughout the campaign.
His style of play has drawn comparisons to former Tottenham favourite Jermain Defoe. Rather than relying on physical strength, Kroupi thrives through intelligent movement, sharp acceleration and composed finishing inside the penalty area.
Rogers, meanwhile, offers a completely different profile. Comfortable as an attacking midfielder or operating from the left wing, the former Middlesbrough youngster combines pace, power and excellent ball-carrying ability.
Former Aston Villa teammate Nicolò Zaniolo has even described Rogers as “one of the best players in England,” a reflection of the impact he has made under Unai Emery.
Last season, Rogers produced 10 Premier League goals and six assists while creating 13 big chances for teammates. His ability to beat defenders, drive into dangerous areas and create space makes him one of the division’s most exciting attacking players.
Combining Rogers’ creativity and direct running with Kroupi’s clinical finishing could give Tottenham the cutting edge they have lacked in recent years.
Spurs Seeking a New Era in Attack
Tottenham’s attacking struggles over the past two seasons have made strengthening the forward line a top priority this summer.
Landing both Kroupi and Rogers would represent a significant statement of intent from De Zerbi’s side, offering the perfect blend of creativity, pace, movement and finishing.
If Spurs can overcome the financial hurdles and fend off competition from Arsenal, the exciting partnership could provide exactly the attacking transformation the club has been searching for as they prepare for the new Premier League campaign.
