SPAIN COMPLETE STUNNING COMEBACK TO BEAT ENGLAND 3-2 IN WEMBLEY NATIONS LEAGUE THRILLER

England suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Spain at Wembley on Saturday night as the reigning world champions produced a stunning second-half comeback to begin their UEFA Nations League campaign with three points.

The highly anticipated Group A3 encounter lived up to its billing, with both teams producing an intense contest filled with goals, attacking football and several major turning points.

Spain made the perfect start when Lamine Yamal capitalised on an early mistake from Marc Guéhi before calmly finishing past England goalkeeper James Trafford in the second minute.

The early setback did not discourage England, however. Thomas Tuchel’s side responded with greater attacking intent and gradually began to put the Spanish defence under serious pressure.

Their persistence paid off in the 35th minute when Jude Bellingham launched a counter-attack before finding Anthony Gordon, who kept his composure to beat Unai Simón and restore parity.

England then completed the turnaround just four minutes later.

Nico O’Reilly delivered a dangerous cross into the box, and Harry Kane rose to head the ball beyond Simón, giving the hosts a 2-1 advantage going into half-time.

Wembley was suddenly celebrating what appeared to be a remarkable turnaround against the world champions.

However, the second half brought a completely different story.

England were handed a golden opportunity to increase their advantage when Kane was awarded a penalty shortly after the restart.

The England captain stepped up with the chance to make it 3-1, but his effort struck the crossbar.

That miss proved to be a crucial turning point.

Spain immediately sensed an opportunity to regain control of the match, and they eventually found their equaliser through substitute Álex Baena in the 56th minute.

Baena produced a precise curling effort that found the bottom corner, leaving Trafford with little chance and bringing Spain level at 2-2.

The visitors were now growing increasingly confident, while England were forced to withstand sustained pressure.

Spain’s momentum eventually produced another decisive moment.

Baena became the architect once again, threading an excellent pass through the England defence for Mikel Oyarzabal.

The Spanish forward showed composure inside the area, lifting the ball over the advancing Trafford to complete Spain’s comeback and put the visitors 3-2 ahead.

England attempted to respond during the closing stages, pushing forward in search of an equaliser.

The Wembley crowd continued to urge the hosts forward, but Spain’s defence held firm and refused to surrender their advantage.

The final whistle confirmed a dramatic victory for Spain.

For England, the defeat will be particularly frustrating because they had recovered from an early setback and moved into a winning position before allowing Spain back into the contest.

The missed penalty from Kane will inevitably be remembered as one of the major moments of the match, particularly because Spain equalised soon afterwards and eventually completed the comeback.

The result gives Spain three points from their opening Group A3 fixture, while England begin their Nations League campaign without a point.

The victory also extended Spain’s unbeaten run in competitive matches to 39 games, according to beIN Sports reporting cited by TVC News.

For Tuchel, attention will now turn quickly to England’s next Nations League fixture. The Three Lions are scheduled to travel to Prague to face Czechia on Tuesday, September 29.

Despite the defeat, England demonstrated that they can compete with the reigning world champions, particularly during a first half in which they recovered from conceding an early goal and established a 2-1 lead.

But Spain ultimately showed their resilience.

Yamal’s early strike gave them the perfect beginning, Gordon and Kane turned the match around for England, and Baena and Oyarzabal then produced the decisive second-half response.

In the end, the scoreboard told the story:

England 2-3 Spain.

Spain leave Wembley with three valuable points, while England are left to reflect on a match in which missed opportunities and Spain’s second-half response proved decisive.
