Roberto De Zerbi Makes Candid Admission After Tottenham’s Fourth Consecutive Premier League Game Without a Goal

Roberto De Zerbi has offered an honest assessment of Tottenham Hotspur’s disappointing start to the Premier League season after his side once again failed to find the net.

With almost a month having passed since the campaign began, Tottenham are still waiting for their first league goal of the season. Their latest setback came against Everton, with the two sides playing out another frustrating goalless draw.

The fixture had been viewed by some pundits as a crucial opportunity for Spurs to get their season moving, but Tottenham once again struggled to turn their possession and attacking pressure into clear-cut opportunities.

The lack of goals is now becoming a serious concern around the club, with questions increasingly being raised about where the attacking inspiration will come from if the problem continues.

De Zerbi Points to Tottenham’s Physical Condition

Tottenham made a promising start against Everton, dominating the opening stages and putting their opponents under significant pressure.

For around 30 minutes, Spurs played with impressive intensity and moved the ball quickly, forcing Everton to spend long periods defending. However, that level of energy gradually disappeared as the game progressed.

De Zerbi believes the physical condition of his squad is partly responsible for Tottenham’s inability to maintain the same intensity throughout the match.

Speaking after the game, the Tottenham manager explained that the club’s preparations for the new campaign had been disrupted by several factors, including injuries, players’ international commitments and late arrivals.

The Italian insisted that he was being completely honest about the situation and acknowledged that Tottenham had started their preparations later than ideal.

He said the team had not yet reached the physical level required to maintain the kind of performance they produced during the opening 30 minutes.

De Zerbi also pointed to Tottenham’s struggles in the final third, admitting that the team needs to improve its decision-making, passing and willingness to shoot when opportunities arise.

According to the manager, if Tottenham can reproduce the intensity shown during the opening half-hour for much longer periods, he believes the results will eventually follow.

Tottenham’s Final-Third Problems Remain

While De Zerbi was encouraged by aspects of Tottenham’s performance, he made it clear that the team must become much more effective in front of goal.

Spurs created promising situations but repeatedly failed to make the final pass or produce the decisive finish needed to turn their dominance into goals.

The manager stressed that Tottenham must be more willing to shoot when they have both the time and space to do so.

He also suggested that a lack of confidence may have affected some of his players after the early pressure failed to produce a goal.

For De Zerbi, the solution is not to panic but to remain realistic about what the team is currently capable of and continue working on the areas that require improvement.

De Zerbi Admits Four Games Without a Goal Is Difficult to Accept

Despite Tottenham’s attacking struggles, De Zerbi praised the supporters for the way they backed the team during the match.

The atmosphere was particularly positive during the opening stages, when Spurs looked energetic and dangerous. However, the failure to score eventually changed the mood inside the stadium.

De Zerbi admitted that going four Premier League matches without scoring is extremely difficult to accept, particularly for the supporters.

He also argued that the result should not completely overshadow the positive aspects of Tottenham’s performance.

The manager believes his players are working in the right direction and urged them to focus on the improvements they can make rather than becoming distracted by criticism from journalists, fans or social media.

De Zerbi pointed out that football opinions can change dramatically depending on the final result. Had Tottenham found a late winner against Everton, the same performance might have been described very differently.

For that reason, he wants his players to concentrate on their football rather than external noise.

The Tottenham boss remains convinced that the team has the foundations to improve, but the immediate priority is clear: Spurs must find a way to turn their attacking pressure into goals.

With four consecutive Premier League matches now ending without Tottenham scoring, the pressure on De Zerbi and his players will only continue to grow unless they can finally end their frustrating goal drought.
