West Ham keeping tabs on Brownhill
According to TEAMtalk, Brownhill’s position at Al Shabab has become less certain following the Saudi Pro League club’s acquisition of former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.
Al Shabab are reportedly reviewing their financial situation and could consider selling players to raise additional funds. Brownhill is viewed as one of the club’s more valuable and marketable players due to his established reputation in English football.
That situation has reportedly attracted West Ham’s attention, with the London club having maintained an interest in the 30-year-old midfielder for some time.
Brownhill could be a logical target following Ward-Prowse’s expected departure. The former Burnley captain knows English football inside out and previously established himself as an important player and influential leader during his time at Turf Moor.
However, West Ham are not the only club keeping an eye on his circumstances.
Hull among clubs interested in midfielder
Newly promoted Hull City have reportedly already made enquiries about Brownhill as they look to strengthen their squad with players possessing Premier League experience.
Coventry City are also understood to be monitoring the midfielder, with manager Frank Lampard reportedly appreciating Brownhill’s versatility, experience and leadership.
Birmingham City, Southampton, Wrexham and Wolves are also believed to have shown interest or requested information about the midfielder’s availability.
The next step could ultimately depend on whether Al Shabab decide to make Brownhill available and, crucially, how much they would demand for his transfer.
For West Ham, Ward-Prowse’s departure would leave both a vacancy and a potential need for another experienced central midfielder. Brownhill could therefore represent an attractive option if the financial terms prove reasonable.
His familiarity with English football, leadership experience and goalscoring contribution from midfield would all make him a useful addition to the Hammers’ squad.
The biggest obstacle, however, could be the growing competition for his signature. Hull could potentially offer Brownhill a major role in their Premier League squad, while several ambitious Championship sides are also monitoring the situation.
