Savio makes dream Tottenham debut
Simons, who is currently recovering from a long-term knee injury, watched as Savio made an immediate impact after being introduced from the bench.
The Brazilian winger collected the ball close to the right touchline before embarking on a stunning run, using quick feet, sharp changes of direction and bursts of acceleration to evade three Charlton defenders.
Savio then cut inside before unleashing a superb left-footed strike that flew into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
His contribution did not stop with his spectacular finish. Savio also played an important role in another Tottenham goal as Spurs secured an emphatic 5-1 victory.
The performance offered Tottenham supporters an early taste of the qualities Simons had been praising ahead of his friend’s move to North London.
Simons and Savio share a close relationship
The friendship between Simons and Savio dates back to the 2022/23 campaign, when the pair developed a strong relationship during their time together at PSV Eindhoven.
