Since Harry Kane departed for Bayern Munich in 2024, Tottenham Hotspur have struggled to find a consistent, top-tier goal scorer. The club has rotated through several attacking options, but none have managed to replicate the reliability in front of goal that defined much of their success over the previous decade.
Dominic Solanke, signed from Bournemouth in 2023 for £65 million, has yet to live up to his price tag as Kane’s intended successor. The 28-year-old spent most of last season injured and made little impact when available. Richarlison finished as the club’s top scorer with 12 goals across all competitions, though his fitness and consistency remain ongoing concerns.
In response, manager Roberto De Zerbi is actively seeking a top-class striker capable of delivering goals regularly—and naturally, links to Bayern’s Harry Kane have resurfaced.
Kane rules out Premier League return despite Spurs links
However, Kane appears set to commit his long-term future to Bayern Munich by signing a new contract, effectively ending speculation about a dramatic return to north London. Though he has just one year left on his current deal, the 33-year-old is expected to begin renewal talks with the Bundesliga champions.
Since moving to Germany, Kane has been in outstanding form for both club and country. Last season alone, he scored an extraordinary 73 goals. At this summer’s World Cup, he found the net six times in seven matches, finishing just behind Jude Bellingham’s tournament-leading seven. After receiving the European Golden Shoe on Wednesday for being the top scorer across Europe’s domestic leagues, the England captain made it clear he is fully settled at Bayern. He also suggested that returning to England to break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record is no longer a driving force.
In an interview with Four Four Two magazine (via ESPN FC), Kane said: “When I first left [Spurs in 2023], for sure it was something that I thought I’d definitely be coming back. That itch isn’t there as much anymore. I’m extremely happy here in Munich. It’s opened my eyes to a totally different world of football outside of England. It’s made me appreciate European football even more. With the team we have here, with the manager. My family are really settled here. It’s just about being in the best place possible. I never say never but, for now, I’m concentrating on Bayern Munich, and we’ll see what the future holds.”
Spurs pursuing double City raid
As Kane’s return grows increasingly unlikely, Tottenham are reportedly shifting focus elsewhere. On Wednesday, renowned journalist David Ornstein revealed that the club is advancing toward a double deal for Manchester City attackers Savinho and Omar Marmoush. While no agreement is certain, City are said to be open to letting both leave for suitable offers.
Under De Zerbi’s first full season in charge, Spurs have been highly active in the summer window. Securing both Savinho and Marmoush would push their total spending beyond £370 million.
