Sunderland team news explained as Régis Le Bris handed fresh injury concern ahead of Premier League start

Sunderland will bring their pre-season preparations to a close on Saturday when they face French side Stade Rennais, with Régis Le Bris making one alteration to his starting XI.

Thomas Meunier misses out after suffering a minor knock during training, allowing Trai Hume to return to his usual full-back role. Chemsdine Talbi comes into the lineup and is expected to operate on the right wing, while Nilson Angulo retains his place on the left.

The Echo understands that Meunier’s injury is not considered serious, although Le Bris is expected to provide a further update after the match.

Nordi Mukiele and Omar Alderete also remain sidelined with minor knocks. However, Romaine Mundle returns to the squad after missing Sunderland’s 2-0 victory over RC Lens because of a minor ankle problem. Mundle is also reportedly close to agreeing a new contract with the club.

Sunderland XI: Roefs; Hume, Ballard, O’Nien, Reinildo; Xhaka, Le Fee, Sadiki; Angulo, Talbi, Brobbey.

Substitutes: Tutierov, Ellborg, Jenson Jones, Diarra, Rigg, Mundle, Isidor, Browne, Jocelin, Seelt.
