According to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manhã (via Sporten), new Benfica manager Marco Silva has held direct talks with Schjelderup and made it clear he views the winger as a key part of his plans at the Estádio da Luz.
The complication? Schjelderup himself is keen on a fresh challenge and is drawn to the Premier League’s higher level of competition.
However, if Benfica dig in and block his exit, it would deal a significant blow to Spurs’ wide-area reinforcements. In that case, Tottenham’s recruitment team would need to pivot quickly and find an alternative for de Zerbi.
