Earlier in the transfer window, Micky van de Ven was linked with high-profile moves to both Liverpool and Barcelona, fuelling speculation over his future in North London.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has firmly dismissed those reports, describing them as “fake news” and insisting Tottenham have no intention of selling the Dutch defender.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that while Spurs are open to parting ways with Romero as they reshape the squad under De Zerbi, Van de Ven remains a vital part of the club’s long-term plans.
According to Romano, Tottenham have already prepared for Romero’s likely departure by recruiting Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi, meaning they will not be forced into panic signings later in the window.
He stressed that Van de Ven is considered untouchable and will stay at the club, with De Zerbi viewing him as one of the key figures in his new project.
Romero Departure Appears Increasingly Likely
While Van de Ven is expected to remain, the situation surrounding Cristian Romero continues to point towards an exit.
Recent reports have claimed Tottenham could be willing to accept around €50 million (£42.6 million) for the Argentine international this summer.
However, Romero’s value may have increased following another impressive international tournament. The 28-year-old has once again played a pivotal role for Argentina and is now just one victory away from lifting a second consecutive FIFA World Cup title.
Should Argentina complete that achievement, Tottenham may find themselves in an even stronger negotiating position, especially with several top European clubs reportedly impressed by Romero’s performances on football’s biggest stage.
