Tottenham Hotspur are ramping up their attacking reinforcements before the summer transfer window slams shut, though their pursuit of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has hit a significant snag, according to a well-placed club insider.

After back-to-back underwhelming Premier League campaigns, Spurs have already overhauled their defensive and midfield ranks under Roberto De Zerbi. New arrivals Andy Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka have bolstered the backline, with further departures in that department anticipated.

Luka Vuskovic has already sealed a high-profile switch to Brighton & Hove Albion, while transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirms captain Cristian Romero is set to exit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer. His central-defensive partner Micky van de Ven, however, remains firmly off-limits.

Midfield, too, could see outgoings following the expensive acquisitions of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. Nottingham Forest are circling Lucas Bergvall, while Pape Matar Sarr and Archie Gray—both attracting interest elsewhere—face uncertain futures.

Upfront, no attacking players have departed yet, but De Zerbi is desperate to add at least two fresh faces before the September 1 deadline, with a left-winger and a striker topping his wishlist.

Rogers Interest Confirmed, But Better Offers Await

Any new centre-forward arrival may hinge on the futures of Dominic Solanke or Richarlison, but a left-sided attacker appears a near-certainty regardless of outgoings.

According to Romano, Spurs’ primary target remains Manchester City’s Savinho—a priority since last summer—with negotiations ongoing. Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo and AC Milan’s Rafael Leão are also on the radar, but senior source O’Keefe reveals that Tottenham are “huge admirers” of Villa and England star Rogers, recently dubbed “one of the best midfielders in the world” by NBC pundit Robbie Mustoe.

However, O’Keefe casts doubt on Spurs’ chances, noting the 23-year-old is likely to have more attractive suitors—Arsenal have already identified him as their top attacking target this window.

Compounding matters, Villa value Rogers at a staggering £130 million. While Tottenham have shown a willingness to splash the cash, matching that figure would shatter the British transfer record—a step too far even for their ambitious spending spree.

Surprise Full-Back Enquiry Emerges

With Robertson’s arrival and Pedro Porro’s new long-term deal, Spurs appear well-stocked at full-back. Djed Spence, Ben Davies, Souza, and Gray can also fill in, making their reported enquiry for Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams—named Forest’s Player of the Season—something of a curveball.

Spence, an England international, has been tipped to leave this summer, and like Williams, he offers cover on both flanks. A move for the Welshman would make more sense if Spence departs. Yet Tottenham face competition, with Newcastle United and Manchester United also tracking Williams.
