“Leeds will be…” – West Ham boss Nuno makes honest ‘tough Leeds’ admission ahead of final day showdown
Leeds United Could Decide the Premier League Relegation Battle This Weekend
As the Premier League season comes to a dramatic close, Leeds United find themselves in the position of unofficial referees in the relegation scrap. The Whites travel to face West Ham on the final day, and the outcome of that match could seal the fate of more than just their own season.
What was once a messy relegation tussle has now narrowed into a two-horse race between West Ham and Tottenham. Roberto De Zerbi’s side sit two points clear of the drop zone after failing to pick up a result midweek, keeping the pressure firmly on.
Leeds have already done their part to complicate matters for the Hammers, having held them to a draw at Elland Road last week. Now, Daniel Farke’s men head to the London Stadium, where the home side are desperate for all three points.
Nuno Opens Up on the Leeds Challenge
West Ham boss Nuno Espírito Santo has faced Daniel Farke twice this season and is still searching for his first win against him. Their most recent meeting came in the FA Cup, where Leeds advanced on penalties.
A loss on Sunday means certain relegation for West Ham. Speaking to the BBC, Nuno admitted this could be one of the biggest matches of his managerial career.
“Probably, yes. A tough one. Leeds did a very good season. They have quality players who require the best of us,” he said.
Hammers fans have grown frustrated in recent weeks, with some booing the team after their loss to Newcastle. Nuno has urged the supporters to rally behind the squad one last time.
“Be there from the first minute, and then it is up to us so that the support continues. I don’t expect many surprises. I expect a tough team from Leeds. I have known Daniel for some time now – he will prepare the Leeds players the best that he can. We expect a tough, tough match.”
Leeds Have Their Own Ambitions
Despite the stakes for West Ham, Leeds aren’t just showing up to play spoiler. Daniel Farke said in Friday’s press conference that his side are aiming to extend their unbeaten run and finish the season on a high.
Even with as many as six first-team players potentially sidelined, there’s quiet confidence within the camp. Leeds haven’t lost a league game away from home since January, and the players are eager to reward the traveling fans after signing off at Elland Road with a confident win over Brighton.
Still, Farke knows Sunday won’t be straightforward. West Ham have everything to lose—and that can make them dangerous.
