The race for the Scottish Premiership title is set to go down to the wire after a thrilling night of action left league leaders Hearts and second-place Celtic separated by just one point heading into the final day.

Hearts delivered a commanding 3–0 win over Falkirk at Tynecastle, moving to 80 points. First-half goals from Frankie Kent and Cammy Devlin put the hosts in firm control, before Blair Spittal added a third to seal the victory. The result also meant Hearts completed an entire league season unbeaten at home for the first time since 1986.

Yet even that wasn’t enough to clinch the title early, as Celtic produced a dramatic comeback of their own, edging Motherwell 3–2 at Fir Park with a contentious 98th-minute penalty.

Motherwell had taken the lead through Elliot Watt in the 17th minute, but Daizen Maeda leveled for Celtic just before halftime. Benjamin Nygren then netted his 21st goal of the season to put the reigning champions ahead. Liam Gordon looked to have snatched a vital point for Motherwell with five minutes remaining, seemingly putting Hearts on the brink of the title. However, a VAR review led to a handball decision against Sam Nicholson, and Kelechi Iheanacho calmly slotted home the resulting spot kick to send the title race to the final weekend.

Celtic now sit on 79 points and will host Hearts on Saturday lunchtime. A win for the Hoops would see them retain the Premiership crown, while Hearts need only a draw or victory to become Scottish champions for the first time since 1960.

The dramatic conclusion to Wednesday’s match sparked wild scenes, as Celtic fans flooded onto the Fir Park pitch after Iheanacho’s 98th-minute winner kept their title hopes alive.

Celtic had seen their lead erased late in the game, with the score tied at 2–2 before the controversial penalty decision. Referee John Beaton was sent to the VAR monitor to review the handball incident involving Nicholson, ultimately pointing to the spot. Iheanacho held his nerve to fire home the decisive kick, cutting Hearts’ lead to a single point.

As the final whistle blew almost immediately after the goal, Celtic supporters poured onto the pitch in emotional celebration.
