Joao Palhinha reveals Tottenham dressing room reaction to vital Wolves win
João Palhinha believes Tottenham’s first win of 2026 will provide the squad with a crucial motivational boost in their fight to avoid Premier League relegation.
Spurs started brightly against Wolves on Saturday, pressing high and forcing the hosts into errors, though clear-cut chances remained scarce. Injuries to Dominic Solanke in the first half and Xavi Simons after the break further blunted Tottenham’s attacking threat—until Palhinha tapped in from a corner to seal the victory.
Following last week’s late draw with Brighton, manager Roberto De Zerbi said he was targeting five wins from Spurs’ final five matches of the season. Now, with a long-awaited victory finally secured, Palhinha is confident the players can believe in survival.
“Hopefully it changes something,” he told BBC Sport.
“This victory means so much more than three points for me, the fans, and the entire club. This has not been a normal season, and we all share responsibility for where we are.”
He added: “We have four finals left. We need to do our jobs. Hopefully this win can shift things and give us extra motivation, because it’s been a long time without a victory.
“What we can control right now is doing our job until the end of the season and keeping the club where it belongs—in the Premier League.
“We will give everything we have until the final whistle because keeping Tottenham in the top flight means everything to us.”
