Tottenham XI vs Wolves: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup, injury latest for Premier League
Udogie and Vicario Doubtful for Spurs’ Relegation Six-Pointer at Wolves
Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario are both doubts heading into Tottenham’s crucial relegation six-pointer away to Wolves on Saturday.
Reports emerged on Thursday suggesting that Udogie, who has only recently returned from a hamstring injury, has picked up another knock and is now uncertain for Spurs’ trip to Molineux. Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether Vicario has recovered from a hernia injury, having missed Tottenham’s last two games after undergoing surgery during the international break.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi is expected to provide an update on the pair’s fitness during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.
Udogie’s Injury Woes Continue
Udogie has struggled with fitness throughout his time at Spurs, missing 12 games this season due to two separate hamstring injuries. The Italian has started both of De Zerbi’s first two matches in charge, but could now miss out against Wolves, with Djed Spence likely to deputize in his absence.
De Zerbi had previously said he expected Vicario back in training at the start of this week, but it is not yet clear whether he will be fit enough to start as Spurs search for their first win of the calendar year against bottom-of-the-table Wolves.
Maddison’s Careful Comeback
James Maddison was named in a matchday squad for the first time this season as Spurs were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Brighton last weekend. Notably, the Englishman did not warm up with the other substitutes at half-time and headed straight down the tunnel before the final whistle, after Spurs conceded a 95th-minute equalizer from Georginio Rutter.
Maddison did return to the pitch to console his teammates after the game. However, with De Zerbi keen not to push the 29-year-old too hard following more than eight months out with an ACL injury, careful consideration will be given to his reintegration.
Simons and Bentancur Expected to Feature
Xavi Simons, who scored and provided an assist during the frustrating draw against Brighton, is expected to be fit despite being seen hobbling through the mixed zone at full-time. The Dutch midfielder was visibly struggling with cramp toward the end of the Brighton match and will likely reprise his starting role after an impressive display.
Rodrigo Bentancur is also expected to start for the second consecutive game following his return from a hamstring injury. The Uruguayan brought energy and dynamism to Spurs’ midfield against Brighton, and De Zerbi is likely to stick with the same midfield combination for the trip to Wolves.
Desperate Need for Points
Spurs are in desperate need of three points as they look to climb out of the relegation zone following a winless start to De Zerbi’s tenure. Sitting two points from safety with five games remaining, Tottenham have not won a league game since December 28.
Despite the bleak outlook, De Zerbi remains confident in his side and believes Spurs can win all their remaining fixtures as they aim to avoid dropping into the second division for the first time since 1977.
